summers in Illinois

We sat on the bench at the DairyFreeze
Catching vanilla drops with our tongues
Watching friends drive by in Novas and 'stangs
Not realizing what was gonna come

Her long hair shone red and yellow,
Her lips bright and chocolaty too
We laughed at the crazy radio DJ
And wiped the sticky sprinkles off our shoes

that's how we spent our summers
among the cornfields in Illinois
where we learned about love and forgiveness
how to forever be girls and boys

September sunsets filled with tassels
July mornings wet with the dew
Dive in the lake to duck life's hassles
Spending long days there with you

that's how we spent our summers
among the cornfields in Illinois
where we learned about love and forgiveness
how to forever be girls and boys

I remember summers in Illinois. I remember the corn festivals. I remember these days. Thanks for bringing it back. :)
