Christmas Makes Me Remember

the evening sky, the snowy ground are the same shade of blue-gray dishwasher runs, and the sounds of Christmas are starting to fade Though my tree is only two feet tall And my string of lights has twenty five There's simply no good reason at all For what this season does to me inside Christmas makes me laugh Christmas makes me cry Christmas makes me remember all the reasons why Why I want peace on earth And want it to start with me Why one divine birth can change so completely The way I look at you The way I think about December Christmas makes me remember Christmas makes me remember I can remember it like yesterday When I put that memory around your neck Without making a sound, your eyes knew what to say Words I hope you'll never forget Though days will pass and time will change The way we both look at things we've done The factuality of history plays Like a preview of things yet to come Christmas makes me laugh Christmas makes me cry Christmas makes me remember all the r

the story

there's nothing left to say there's no more to tell the story's been told before it's been told very well not sure what I could add what color or what flair I could really find that's not already there it's a story about loving a story about a smile a tale about living with the gift of a child it's the one story from which all else derive its the ancient story that's still alive everyone has heard it sung the song has been played the melody is fit to hum and for whistling away symphonies have been composed, sonnets, verse and psalms, because all the poets know the potency of the song it's a song about loving a song about a smile a tale about living with the gift of a child it's the one song from which all else derive its the ancient singing that's still alive I want to be part of that story I want to join in the song I've heard creation imploring the rest of us to sing along it's a song about loving a story about a smile a song about

Christmas in A Box

take the boxes from the attic like treasures from the museum memories come flooding back and now there's no stopping them the ornaments hand-made and bought clothes-pin soldiers all lined up moons and stars will hang around next to camels, bears and other stuff garland tangled with the lights grapevine wreath for the door plastic snowman guards the night shepherds, kings gather once more but I can't keep Christmas in a box though the things in there will unlock thoughts of you being here with me I'll hold those times here deep inside they'll get better, just like wine and I'll sip it longingly cookies iced and sprinkled pecans and walnuts cracked frosted windows and icicles presents shaken and put back cinnamon rolls and egg nog french coffee and chicory blend a stocking hung for the dog Christmas carols without end but I can't keep Christmas in a box though the things in there will unlock thoughts of you being here with me I'll hold those times here deep in

zoo lights

Image
There's a chill in the air -- Christmas songs everywhere, And everyone is feeling alright Come along with me; Go see some monkeys At the zoo, made of Christmas lights We'll sip some chocolate About as hot as it can get And we'll try not to burn our tongues I'm sure we can't fool Leroy, a horse so cool: gonna cuddle on the wagon Hand in hand we'll walk Hear the crazy giraffe talk Though he doesn't make much sense See the zebra's stripes Under glittering lights Munching there beyond the fence It's a grand sight Look at those zoo lights Not something I want to miss What a fine night It will turn out alright When we wrap it up in a kiss This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License

with each passing day

Yes, she saw him there When he walked right past her Tried to act like she didn't care But caring could outlast her Couldn't admit it But it was plain to see Just like a poor queen's gambit Declined not so tenderly like a neighbor who lets the fence rot thinks a thin coat of paint is what it takes to stop the hurt in her heart when she turned and walked away will just come back stronger with each passing day Sure it was right Of that there is no doubt Close the door, turn out the light and fall crying on the couch She'll claim a new love So the old one will go away She'll try hard, but that's the rub Undying love will always stay like a neighbor who lets the fence rot thinks a thin coat of paint is what it takes to stop the hurt in her heart when she turned and walked away will just come back stronger with each passing day This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License

A Little Help From You

I'm on a staircase climbing up to heaven Taking one step forward, and slipping one or two Can't seem to quite get the hang of livin Think I'm gonna need a little help from you Having some problems saying what I'm feeling Creating a shroud to cover up the truth Need to open up, like an onion unpeeling Think I'm gonna need a little help from you Can you pull me upward; Can you help me stand? Will you say those kindly words; Help me be a better man? Can you be the friend that wraps grace around the truth You know I'll get by with a little help from you In times of joy or when my heart is breakin, When I'm bustin down the doors, or if I'm coming unglued When all my hope for sweeter love is achin Think I'm gonna need a little help from you When a shot of Novocain is what my soul is wanting Instead of hearing the sting of painful truth I need someone to point me back to the one thing Think I'm gonna need a little help from you Can you pull me upward; C

First Found Him

Everybody wants to know What's come over you They think there must be something That's made your dreams come true What they'll never see is The dream you've been walking in Ever since that moment you first found him Your heart has been captured, your mind's been set ablaze You're always thinking about one thing In about a million different ways It doesn't seem to matter about why or how or the when It's been that way since you first found him what if you wake up; the past all goes away? what if that first kiss was one that marked the day of your redemption, a day of being free no one wants to know any of the details they're just looking to find out something they can each re-tell but they won't understand the laughter welling up within Ever since that moment you first found him what if you wake up; the past all goes away? what if that first kiss was one that marked the day of your redemption, a day of being free the day you first found him the da

There's a brand new thing

There's a brand new thing Happens every morning Just comes over me And it's your mercy This love will never cease Brings me to my knees To face realities within your mercy Hide me here like the shadow of a rock In the heat of the desert sun Fill me with the water I have sought when the day comes undone What you said to me Echoes repeatedly It's reminding me about your mercy Tomorrow I will see something that's new to me Coming over me 'twill be your mercy Hide me here like the shadow of a rock In the heat of the desert sun Fill me with the water I have sought when the day comes undone There's a brand new thing Happens every morning Just comes over me And it's your mercy This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License

momma told me about you

momma said that she loved me when she tucked me into bed she sang me songs about Jesus planted seeds of faith in my head momma said don't be charmed by the bounce of golden curls said her boy wasn't meant to settle for just any girl my momma told me you'd come along some day said if I was patient, I'd know right away that love had come, and come to stay momma told me, told me about you momma said things that don't last might not be real to begin said I should know the difference before I decide who to run with momma said I could live at peace as much as it depends on me said I would discover love as long as I let it discover me my momma told me you'd come along some day said if I was patient, I'd know right away that love had come, and come to stay momma told me, told me about you momma said I should try to learn

no longer in control

Just like when snow is falling on a rainy sidewalk, My heart starts sliding every time I hear you talk Not gettin any traction from the reasons in my head Gonna start to take some action cos I remember what you said Hey I know it's way too early To be talking about love Can't help what I'm feeling or what I'm thinking of But darlin when you smile at me and give me your hand to hold that's when it starts happening; I'm no longer in control Just like a stick of butter in a real hot pan, I'm gettin soft and sizzlin When you tell me I'm you're man Can't get me back together can't turn this flame down The only way to make things better is to make sure I stick around Hey I know it's way too early To be talking about love Can't help what I'm feeling or what I'm thinking of But darlin when you smile at me and give me your hand to hold that's when it starts happening; I'm no longer in control Just l

December door

Decembers will always be different than they have ever been before. Now filled with fragmented imagery of the other side of this door popcorn between the cushions warm with canine heat the flicker of light that comes from ships in the fleet that one kiss that will not fade an embrace that lingers and holds still the promises made and the open door there This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License

I am loving you

I'm lovin you I hope you can tell That the things I'm doing are the first things that come to mind When I think I'm loving you Every new day Is new because you are making everything that happens so incredibly new Nothing else really matters You are what I'm after You are whom I'm running to I'm feeling so exciting New things you're igniting What else am I going to do? I'm lovin you I hope you can tell That the things I'm doing are the first things that come to mind When I think I'm loving you This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License

that kind

yeah, it's been a while How are you? Have you seen our old friends? Tell me what's new? Where has the time gone? I sure miss your smile, You look good How are all of your kids? And how about you? I sure have been away too long... Can we pick up where we left off? Are we that kind of friends? Did we build that kind of bond -- the kind that never ends -- or will we just sip, and smile, and nod? A handshake, a patted hug Fluttered hands in the breeze A short glance and then none A sigh hopefully unseen as we drive away with the windows rolled up. yeah, it's been a while How are you? Have you seen our old friends? Tell me what's new? Where has the time gone? This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License

lost in you again

there's a reason why I can't forget your love for me what you accomplished at that point in history When you found me I was going nowhere but now I'm lost in you it's not hard to figure what all this must mean there's not much that could make jaded hearts sing I'd been all over quickly getting nowhere but now I'm lost in you I've lost all my desire to run away Content to be by your side every day No need to wonder what I'm going to do Just a lost soul, happy to be lost in you it's a new direction to not wander around stumbling toward perfection when i hit the ground your loving kindness makes everything clear now that I'm lost in you I've lost all my desire to run away Content to be by your side every day No need to wonder what I'm going to do Just a lost soul, happy to be lost in you This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License

I'm still holding out For just one more sip Before I forget I'm always wondering how How I'll get along If this goes wrong There's nothing here to stop me From doing it right turn on the light It's not like you forgot me you're still there wondering where and it's just a matter of climbing the ladder up and going on to the next level drop the backpack on the ground listen to the sound of it crushing the devils Stepping with you beside me away from this here slough of despair Up ahead hope is always waiting for me to catch up open the latch and it's just a matter of climbing the ladder up and going on to the next level drop the backpack on the ground listen to the sound of it crushing the devils Coming up on the gates soon crossing a river maybe whatever anticipating what is waiting there making it clear more of who's here and it's just a matter of climbing the ladder up and going on to the next level drop the backpack on the ground listen to the

in the hills of Palestine

bright light on a quiet evening in the hills of Palestine in hearts illuminating the shadowed doubts in hope's decline liberation seems much closer than it ever has before since this announcement of the savior we've been waiting for now we can step that much nearer to what the maker had in mind we've heard it in the song in the hills of Palestine This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License
