a sign

Listen here
here's a story to be told
Get it clear,
Something you need to know
I've been down,
but never completely out
Just waiting for a sign

Yesterdays
They so quickly disappear
Hanging on
To things we all grip in fear
It's alright
To loosen my grip just a bit
While I'm waiting for a sign
Everybody's crying for
Mercy -- Though they don't know the meaning of the word
Mercy -- Comes in ways that sometimes seem absurd
You know it's not
Easy to get up and leave the past behind
But that's why we need mercy every time
Settling
Isn't an option anymore
Coming in
To the place I should have known
Mercy's here
For all that I have ever done
And I finally see the signs
Everybody's crying for
Mercy -- Though they don't know the meaning of the word
Mercy -- Comes in ways that sometimes seem absurd
You know it's not
Easy to get up and leave the past behind
But that's why we need mercy every time

The quality of mercy is not strained, it droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven upon the place beneath. It blesseth him that gives and him that takes: Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice
