change in the heart

The room's too hot, the bed too cold
My leg's too heavy, girl it's getting old
All these reasons why I can't stay here

All this pushing away only widens the space
So I roll over again and turn my face
to the wall and scratch the dog's ears

I know it's not the only thing
But it's a place to start
I think layin close might bring
A change in the heart

The day is just beginning, but it seems doomed
To be cold and barren, something could have bloomed
If it had been planted with a welcome

It's not worth demanding, or claiming a right
But I'll try one more time tonight
And ask for a hand, an undeserved one

I know it's not the only thing
But it's a place to start
I think holding hands might bring
A change in the heart
