we get all stuffy and urbanited
garage doors closed, AC on for hours
don't know that the folks we just sighted
down the street are neighbors of ours

but just walk outside in a buffalo stetson
stroll a round with a how'dya do
you'll be surprised the reaction it gets and
all that a cowboy hat can do

cos everyone remembers John Wayne
the Virginian, Hoss. and Little Joe
as real good men, and soon they'll be sayin
you're a cowboy they're proud to know

wear a cowboy's hat in an urbanite world
leave the cul de sac to ride the range
that world will change if you're so bold
and soon it won't seem strange

cos everyone wants to be an Autrey,
even if they don't like a country tune
and no one really likes the paltry
existence of living under a street light moon

so wear a cowboy hat in your neighborhood
go ahead and name your car Ol Paint
wear your cowboy hat, cos it will do us all good
to try to be the best of what we ain't.
