at the altar

at the altar, I put it down
set it aside, turned around
dropped to my knees, face on the ground
by the grace I have found

in the desert, I buried it deep
parched by thirst, in the heat
forever changed by what I've seen
in your mercy, I'm made clean

for your love, I have pined
pushed away, turned aside
love eternal, be my only guide
through these tears on my eyes

standing up, now with joy
of a hope I'll employ
and walk toward a deeper knowing
of your love building in me

at the altar, I put it down
set it aside, turned me around
dropped to my knees, face on the ground
by the grace I have found
