Christmas Makes Me Remember

the evening sky, the snowy ground
are the same shade of blue-gray
dishwasher runs, and the sounds
of Christmas are starting to fade

Though my tree is only two feet tall
And my string of lights has twenty five
There's simply no good reason at all
For what this season does to me inside
Christmas makes me laugh
Christmas makes me cry
Christmas makes me remember
all the reasons why
Why I want peace on earth
And want it to start with me
Why one divine birth
can change so completely
The way I look at you
The way I think about December
Christmas makes me remember
Christmas makes me remember
I can remember it like yesterday
When I put that memory around your neck
Without making a sound, your eyes knew what to say
Words I hope you'll never forget

Though days will pass and time will change
The way we both look at things we've done
The factuality of history plays
Like a preview of things yet to come
Christmas makes me laugh
Christmas makes me cry
Christmas makes me remember
all the reasons why
Why I want peace on earth
And want it to start with me
Why one divine birth
can change so completely
The way I look at you
The way I think about December
Christmas makes me remember
Christmas makes me remember
