wish I had thought of that

Didn't think twice when she turned away
without sayin a word
Didn't notice the tear in her eyes
when she quietly shut the car door

Too busy thinking all about me, and all the things
I was wanting to say
Too busy trying to fix all the things
that didn't matter anyway

Now I'm looking at the dust settling
behind her shrinking car
It's time I started thinking about us
and see why it went this far

oh yeah, I wish I'd thought of that
Wish I'd taken time to figure it out
too late for regret or thinking 'bout the past
but, yeah, I wish I"d thought about that
She likes to hear that she's lookin nice
and that's easy to say, cos it's true
Wasn't thinking I had to tell her every day
Now I can't tell her, but I'm telling you --
oh yeah, I wish I'd thought of that
Wish I'd taken time to figure it out
too late for regret or thinking 'bout the past
but, yeah, I wish I"d thought about that
Never thought about holding hands; just wanted to jump right in bed
Where I could turn her on with a hug and a kiss
Never mind what it was I said

Now both sides of this pillow are feeling chilled
And the covers seem to always stay on
I was too busy chasing all of my own thrills
And now it looks like the thrill's all gone
oh yeah, I wish I'd thought of that
Wish I'd taken time to figure it out
too late for regret or thinking 'bout the past
but, yeah, I wish I"d thought about that
yeah I wish I was thinking,
sure shoulda been thinking
oh yeah I wish i had
wouldn't be so bad
if only I had thought of that
