trip the trigger

"that just won't cut it" was all she said
as she slammed the door in his face
"i'm not so sure it's all that bad"
he said as he put things in their place

everything fired before he could get ready
couldn't find cover soon enough
splattered just like a bouncing betty
left his soul extra coarse-grit rough
is that gonna trip the trigger?
will this put you over the edge?
the smallest things always feel bigger
when you're sliding down the razor's edge
are the nerves worn red-raw
like the man turned inside-out?
shuddering, shrieking at every call
looking for some solace now
"just forget the whole thing" she said
as another ledger line gets filled in
some things just don't fall out of our heads
tendrils spread like irrepressible sins
is that gonna trip the trigger?
will this put you over the edge?
the smallest things always feel bigger
when you're sliding down the razor's edge
are the nerves worn red-raw
like the man turned inside-out?
shuddering, shrieking at every call
looking for some solace now
