float trip
Every summer we'd head past Rolla
Where the Current ran fast
Put our oars into the river for a few days
Hot bulwark, bright sun, cold water
And a sand bar on which to camp
But the memory of the river's now a haze
We knew where we were goin
We know how long they said it'd take
And what was gonna be at the end
And like fools we always tried to show 'em
We could paddle faster, without breaks
and get there twice as fast once again
But now I want to float on the riverI think maybe there were eagles
I want to take it all in
I want to take time to discover
What's coming up 'round the bend
As I am on this journey
To a final resting place
I want to remember the scenery
Don't want it all to be a race
I'm sure someone once saw an otter splash
As in our canoes we were racing by
I wish I could remember clearly
I didn't then but now I understand
why stars are always brighter on a silent night
But now I want to float on the river
I want to take it all in
I want to take time to discover
What's coming up 'round the bend
As I am on this journey
To a final resting place
I want to remember the scenery
Don't want it all to be a race
