mindful

going a mile a minute
find there's not profit in it
to be speeding by this fast
and not see the roadside

Momma told me to chew slower
Didn't think enough to know her
Wisdom would someday cover
The non-food parts of life

Noisy days and dreamless nights
blend in together as I fly
in and out of the racing lie
about the treasure at the end

Pedal's never far from metal
No thought of slowing at all
No attention to the siren's call
to warn me of the deep end

Hold my breath
in your hand
make me mindful
of the ways

Give me rest
Understand
The right pull
is your way
