the way it ought to be
things that happen for the reason
for which they're happening

call it predilection
or say I've been swayed
into thinking election
sometimes comes into play

there's a destiny to each step
an ultimate direction we need to find
and while I'm finding out about yours
I keep getting closer to mine

some call it an essence
some call it the divine
when I go looking for you
you let me find you every time

that's the way it is
the way it ought to be
things that happen for the reason
