became a man

She said she loved the boy
She said she'd always stay
Right there in that small town
Neatly tucked away

He should have known right then
Should have been able to tell
That she would break his heart
And it would hurt like hell

They spent their long summers
Down by the lake's shore
Content to simply be there
Dreaming 'bout more

But she left one winter
Didn't return in spring
And he knew he'd lost her
Spent days mourning

He knew he'd always loved her,
she had once loved him
And on that day she'd left
the boy became a man
