child-like fools

cold, just like the day before,
winter is this, nothing more
a reason to stay always indoors
until you asked me out to play
now, like every other time
that question makes me smile
watch the dancing in your eyes
as you lean to hear what I'll say

when we were kids
it was as simple as this
love didn't know all the rules

now we are "adults",
I know, but --  come on, let's love
like a couple of child-like fools
like a couple of child-like fools
they, whoever 'they' really are,
say this won't go very far
try to keep us still in the dark
but we have a surprise for them

we (I like the way that sounds)
with four feet on the ground
won't let their rules keep us down
we'll keep going to the very end
when we were kids
it was as simple as this
love didn't know all the rules

now we are "adults",
I know, but --  come on, let's love
like a couple of child-like fools
like a couple of child-like fools

"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things" 1 Corinthians 13:11

It's that child-like innocence that sometimes seems foolish, but often is deep in wisdom.
