pushing past

There I was
Standing in the doorway
Dinner in my hand
Thinking that surely no way
Would this fleeting love stand

There you were
On the couch waiting
Said "it's just dinner"
But even then contemplating
What to do with this sinner

It's just like me to find a way around
Just like me to disregard
What your eyes said without any sounds
And that effort to guard your heart

One last time
The wine is pouring
And something much more
Is inevitably reoccurring
Before you close the door

It's just like me to find a way around
Just like me to disregard
What your eyes said without any sounds
And that effort to guard your heart

If you're out there on the ledge in the last analysis
You most certainly get what you want
You get everything you wish for
But if my heart was made for heaven and my soul was made for you
I will swear you my allegiance, but you'll never get your due
