city boy

Waking up in the morning to the 'larm clock
Racing to get my favorite asphalt parkin spot
Wishing I was somewhere else
Could put this life on the cosmic shelf
And follow that no-trail across the range

The guy polished the toes on my distressed Ariats
Guess he thought 'round here they should look like that
Three days drive to do a two-step
And hear the music that I haven't heard yet
And even though folks think it's a bit strange
I know I'm not from Texas
Although my daddy was
And don't dis my boots and hat
Or trash my songs just because
you think I'm just playin at this part
I know, I know -- I'm a city boy,
But I'm a country boy at heart
Thanking the Lord for all this wide open space
Seeing an early morning smile on my woman's face
Sharing a cup of coffee at dawn
Sitting on the porch swing with our pjs on
Looking out across the high desert plains
I know I'm not from Texas
Although my daddy was
And don't dis my boots and hat
Or trash my songs just because
you think I'm just playin at this part
I know, I know -- I'm a city boy,
But I'm a country boy at heart
Laying my head down with her hair in my face
Listening to the night frogs sing Amazing Grace
Hey, now the coyotes join
They know where all this is going
And they don't think it at all strange...
